UNITED WAY OF DEKALB COUNTY SUPPORTS ACCESS TO TRANSPORTATION &
COMMUNITY SERVICES FOR ALICE HOUSEHOLDS
DeKalb County, IN — The DeKalb County Council on Aging is pleased to announce it has received an ALICE Grant from United Way of DeKalb County to support access to essential transportation and community-based services for residents across DeKalb County.
This funding helps strengthen DART (DeKalb Area Rural Transit), DeKalb County’s public transportation service, by supporting program-related improvements that make it easier for residents to identify and access available transportation options. DART provides dependable transportation for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and other residents who rely on access to medical appointments, employment, shopping, and community services.
Funding also supports program-related supplies and materials at the Heimach Center that enhance access to services for seniors and individuals with limited incomes. These resources help ensure residents can participate in programs that promote health, independence, and social connection, reducing isolation and strengthening overall well-being.
“At United Way of DeKalb County, we know that reliable transportation is a critical need for many ALICE households,” said Tyler Cleverly, Executive Director of United Way of DeKalb County. “By supporting DART and community-based services through our ALICE Grant program, we are helping ensure residents can access the resources and opportunities that allow them to remain independent, active, and connected.”
The DeKalb County Council on Aging’s mission is to improve quality of life through programs that meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and mobility needs of seniors and disabled residents. This investment aligns with United Way of DeKalb County’s ALICE Grant Program, which focuses on supporting households that are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed by improving access to essential services and long-term stability.
Together, United Way of DeKalb County and the DeKalb County Council on Aging are working to remove barriers to transportation and community services for ALICE households, ensuring residents across DeKalb County can remain connected, supported, and engaged in their community.
