DeKalb County, IN — Anthony Wayne Area Council, Scouting America, is proud to announce it has received an ALICE Grant from United Way of DeKalb County to expand access to youth development programs for Scouts in DeKalb County.
This funding helps ensure local youth have opportunities to participate in Scouting programs that build character, leadership, citizenship, and life skills. Through hands-on learning, outdoor education, and mentoring, Scouting provides meaningful experiences that positively impact young people and their families.
“At United Way of DeKalb County, we believe every child deserves access to programs that help them grow, learn, and succeed,” said Tyler Cleverly, Executive Director of United Way of DeKalb County. “By supporting Scouting in DeKalb County, we are helping remove barriers to participation and ensuring more youth can develop the skills and confidence they need for the future.”
Scouting reinforces academic growth by turning learning into active, practical experiences. Merit badges and advancement requirements encourage youth to explore subjects such as science, technology, history, communication, and personal finance. Scouts apply what they learn through projects, research, presentations, and problem-solving activities that strengthen critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills — tools that directly support success in and beyond the classroom.
Scouting also focuses on leadership development, teamwork, service, and personal responsibility — skills that benefit youth today and help strengthen the DeKalb County community for the future. This funding supports program materials, trained volunteers, and inclusive activities that promote accessibility for families across the county.
Anthony Wayne Area Council, Scouting America, is grateful to United Way of DeKalb County for its continued investment in local youth. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving lives and creating lasting, positive outcomes for children and families in DeKalb County.
Together, United Way of DeKalb County and Anthony Wayne Area Council, Scouting America, are working to remove barriers to youth development opportunities for ALICE families, ensuring more young people in DeKalb County have access to programs that build confidence, leadership skills, and a strong foundation for future success.
